Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then found many other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.
City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A senior political figure commented the attack left him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
